the difference between Primary and Secondary Research

Primary research is when you go out and get your own research, for example: getting people to fill out a questionnaire.

Secondary research is when you get research that someone else has collected, for example: reading a book, or using the internet.

Evaluation Questions

How does your finished product compare to your design?
My finished product is almost identical to what I designed it to be, as I was able to use the two images I wanted,  (Tennis Woman, and an image of Roger Federer). The image of Roger Federer was imperative as my product is named after him.

How has technology helped you turn your design into a real product?
Using the Apple Mac Computers has helped a lot, as using photoshop on the Mac is a lot easier to use and easy to navigate around than a standard computer. Another way that technology helped me was that I was able to take a picture of the tennis courts with my iPod and upload it to the Mac. Also, using the scanner helped as it enabled me to draw my block designs on paper and then scan them onto a memory stick to then be able to use them.

Do you feel that your product is suitable for your target audience?
I feel that my product is suitable for my target audience as I have designed it for someone who is looking to buy a tennis racket. Another reason it is suitable is that I used my audience feedback to put the final touches to my advert (font, title).

Describe two challenges you have overcome?
The first challenge that I have overcome is using a scanner, as I was unaware of how to use one before this task, but once I had been shown how to scan a document and save it on a memory stick via the scanner then I was able to use it to the best of my ability.
The second challenge that I have overcome was using Photoshop to a high enough standard to be able to produce a good quality advert that looks like it has been done professionally.

Describe the technical skills you have gained?
Technically I think I can produce a successful piece on Photoshop now without much help at all as I have had lots of practice, as I used it when I created my Gaming Magazine, and also when I created my TV Listings magazine cover.

Analysis of audience feedback

From what my audience have told me, I know that I need to take more care and be more precise when I crop pictures in photoshop. I have also found out that using an iconic piece of artwork in my advert boosts the reception it receives, making it more publicly known.

How My Advert Fits All the CAP Codes Used By the ASA

My advert complies with the CAP Codes as it does not make any false statements, and the part of my advert that contains sensitive imagery has been hidden from view. Despite the fact that the piece of artwork I used in my advert is a very famous one, I had to hide the sensitive part of the image because in the modern day this type of imagery is frowned upon as peoples views have changed regarding revealing images.
This image was taken in the 1980's, and during this time period people werent politically correct, and so they saw women as objects of lust, which nowadays is considered wrong.

Audience feedback on my ideas

My audience thinks that the best title that I have suggested is TiRF PRO, and that my best font is ESP_ITALIC

Possible Fonts for my Tennis Racket Advert

The New TiRF PRO – ESP_ITALIC, this is suitable because it is edgy and isnt block letters, implying that the words are moving fast.

The New TiRF PRO – Bauhaus 93, this is suitable because it has rounded edges, like a tennis racket.

The New TiRF PRO – Cooper Black, this is suitable becuase it is bold, and it stands out.

The New TiRF PRO – Comic Sans MS, this is suitable because it is a thin font so you can still see the image behind.

The New TiRF PRO Gill Sands Ultra Bold, this is suitable as it is unique, just like my product.

possible product names

TiRF PRO- this is suitable because it is endorsed by Roger Federer, and it is made of Titanium

Tennis Ultra- this is suitable because it says implies that you can play well by using this racket

LiteWeight- this is suitable because it tells the audience it is light weight

Swing It- this is suitable because you swing the racket when you play

Tennis Racket Advert Block Designs

Tennis Racket Advert Block Design 1

Tennis Racket Advert Block Design 2

I have chosen to use Block Design 1 because, unlike Block Design 2, it features my Company Logo, and also has the title of my new tennis racket product, which are necessities to be able to publicise the product.

Client advertising proposal for Darts Co.'s new Tennis Racket 'TiRF PRO'

To: Advertisement Coordination-Head.
From: Jack Gardiner, Darts Co.
Subject: Sample Client Advertising Proposal.
Proposal submitted on: 2nd March 2012.
This proposal is to all my existing clients, and is to propose an advertisement plan for the release of Darts Co.'s new Tennis Racket the TiRF PRO. This is the first release of a racket in our tennis range, as we currently have a range of other sports, and wish to branch out into the tennis region now. to make this possible we have created the new tennis racket, ‘TiRF PRO'. The product is to be released on 16th April 2012.
I have chosen to advertise my product in a variety of ways with an estimate of £1000,000 approximately. We are planning to through well-known teenage magazines, as this would suit the target market.
I could also through various popular television channels, for example Sky Sports, as this is a popular channel for people who like sports. To add to this, Roger Federer is endorsing our product, so that will give us extra publicity. This will hopefully then make people talk about the racxket and make it better known.
We would much appreciate if the proposal acceptance is received before the 16th of March.
Yours faithfully,
Jack Gardiner.

moodboard for tennis racket adverts

A common feature of these adverts, is that they are exaggerating the ability of the rackets, but they use different ways to do this. They also use colour schemes that all flow with each other, and they make the titles and images stand out.

My Chosen Product and my Company

The product I have chosen to create an advert for is a Tennis Racket. The company that makes this product is Darts Co. and they are a new sports brand that specialise in sports equipment, such as tennis rackets. The name of the product is TiRF PRO. This name has been thought of carefully, the Ti refers to the fact that it it made out of Titanium, the RF referring to Roger Federer, who endorses the product.

These codes are in order to make sure before they submit a marketing way of communicating, they must hold evidence to prove all claims, that the communication given across, is not mislead, or be likely to mislead, by inaccuracy, ambiguity, exaggeration, omission or otherwise.

Block Design for Shoe advert

This is my block design for my shoe advert. This is a good shoe advert as it is simple, without any distracting and unnecessary features, just the title, slogan, and the shoe, which focuses the viewers attention on the shoe.

Analysis of my audience feedback

From looking at my audience feedback I can see that I need to use images that have a better quality. I can also see that my audience believes that it fits the purpose of being a gaming magazine very well, and that I have used a good colour scheme that works well with the images and the title.

GAMEMAG Block Designs

GAMEMAG Block Design 1

GAMEMAG Block Design 2

I have chosen to use Block Design 2 as it looks more appealing than Block Design 1. Also, Block Design 1 has the coverline on the right hand side, which wont be seen on the shelf, whereas Block Design 2 has it on the left, so it can be seen.

Possible game magazine titles

Gaming Central
GAMEMAG
GAMEStar
The Game
Invert Gaming

these titles would all be suitable because from the words used, you can tell that they are about a magazine for the Gaming industry, which is what I am aiming to produce.

7B Block Design for TV Listings Magazine

TV Cover Block Design 1

TV Cover Block Design 2

I made two hand drawn block designs for my TV Listings Magazine Cover. Out of the two that I designed, I decided to use TV Cover Block Design 1. This is because Design 1 has a better layout than Design 2, for example, the Title is in the top left hand corner so that it is visible on the shelf in a newsagents. Another  reason I chose to use Design 1, is that Design 2 didn't have any Secondary Features and Design 1 did. Also, the feature headline, date and puff with price take up too much space on Design 2, which doesn't leave enough space for my main feature.

Model Releases
Model Releases are essential throughout the world, especially when a photograph of a recognisable person, of any age is used in advertising. Even if the face is not visible but the person is capable of being identified then a model release is required. For example:
Parts of the body can be identified due to markings such as tattoos, birth marks etc.
A silhouette of a person if it can be recognised by its location
People in crowd shots, if that person is considered to be the focus of the shot.
